The Enphase data available on computer is brilliant, I was able to view it on line from Papua. I have been able to identify rogue appliances and replace them, adjust the use of some energy sapping units, tailor and fine tune my energy usage. I can now use more appliances while reducing the amount of energy from the grid. Happy to share some of the things I have learned, either on this site or by other contact. I will probably get two more units which will allow even more flexibility and reduce cost to a minimum. I am aware of the up front costs in achieving this, however power is going to increase in price and will justify the cost of this system, which is far less costly than most others.

At every stage everyone we dealt with has been highly skilled, professional and courteous. i wasn’t around for the install team which is a shame as Denise told me how good they were even taking care to make sure our perpetually baffled old dog didn’t do a runner as they were coming and going and its a really neat and tidy job.. and wayne.. what a legend, especially after you get a good couple of shots of espresso into him.. ::-) so thankyou from all of us to all of you..
the ausgrid guy (he also had lots of good things to say about the system we got and GoSolar as well) came today and put the smart meter in and we’re up and running.. noticed that the hot water system has moved to a different time and comes on in the afternoon now but i can’t see it being a problem, its one of those heat pump ones and didn’t run for long anyway.. looking forward to tinkering with the app, what a system to have for gadget junkies like us ::-)

We ‘d like to share our experience with GoSolar Newcastle.
We had 12 existing panels, inverter and the 60c feed in tariff. When we knew the tariff was ending, we looked at battery storage. The company that did our existing setup were next to useless – old technology, batteries that would fit nowhere and quite expensive. We came across Go Solar on the internet just by chance. Wayne did a site inspection and quote within a few days, latest technology, batteries that will fit anywhere, panels with own inverters, monitoring software and well priced.
We had the system installed on 18/2- 12 panels, 6 facing east, 6 facing west- and the metering done a couple of days later. So we were up and running. We have the My Enlighten app on the PC, IPad and IPhone. The battery storage will follow in the middle of the year.
We got our electricity account a couple of weeks ago and I’ll come back to that.
We are big energy users, air con, pool, solar heating for the pool, spearpoint (bore water), dryer, dishwasher and the usual collection of TV’s, PC’s etc. Over the past few years we have bought energy saving replacement products, dishwasher, pool pump etc and because we have a time of use meter, we have changed when we used appliances, setting the spearpoint, pool pump, dishwasher to off peak usage, etc. And we have reduced our bills considerably. Once the Enphase system was up and running we again changed when we ran things, took the pool, dishwasher and spearpoint out of off peak and into shoulder period for some of the time for example
Our latest electricity account was a revelation, The account was from 23/12/2015 – to 23/3/2016. Only 1 month of the bill was after the new panels went in. Our bill was $70 cheaper than the same time last year, but it was the daily kw/hour usage that was most pleasing
Peak down 8.2 kw/day
Shoulder down 15.1 kw/day
Off peak down 9.7 kw/day
We’re really happy with those figures after just a month’s usage and given that we don’t have storage yet and can’t use all the energy produced at time of production, things can only get better.
Word of caution with your energy provider. Check your bills very carefully. Our bill was later than usual, I contacted the company and apparently our details weren’t in the system and they couldn’t get our bill to load! We’ve been here 11 years. After about a week we got the accounts – all 4 of them. 2 were cancelled, 1 amended and added to the 4th bill. There were debits, credits, balances carried forward flying all over the place. Took more than a week to get it sorted.
We are very pleased we decided to upgrade when we did and highly recommend the Enphase system and Go Solar Newcastle. Thanks to Lindsay, Wayne and all the team at GoSolar.
Very professional and speedy installation. The new app for power consumption makes it easy to identify savings around the house. This is our second installation with GoSolar Newcastle and they are fantastic. Highly Recommended.

I have sent a presentation to the local StandUpforSolar group who got us started in this process in the first place… I thought I would let you know because I sing your praises in the presentation. I have offered myself up as a case study for any of their upcoming meetings. As a trainer in adult education this stuff is easy for me and I know it gives most folks the heebies.

Just a note to say using the Enlighten system I was able to clearly identify over time the periods where my additional electric hot water system in the granny flat was kicking in to recover heat after the shower was used. These times where always during non-sunny periods translating into a cost directly to me.
Studying my data over time I could see consistent periods of low demand during peak solar production in-between operation cycles of my pool pump. By placing a timer on my electric hot water system and placing the on times to synchronise in between the pool cycles I have been able to effectively convert my electric hot water system to a solar system at a much lower cost than replacement. In addition I am making more effective use of the power I am producing during the day rather than exporting it for a non-competitive rate of 7 cents a unit only to have to buy it back that night or early next morning at 25 cents to operate the hot water system.
The Enlighten system’s accuracy via regular 15 minute updates showing production over consumption and the remaining export component with the collecting of data over time is allowing me to get the most out of my solar system as it is, therefore I fully expect to be able to gain even more efficiencies and further gains once the batteries become available.
Hi just wanted to give you a bit of feedback and tell you that I couldn’t be happier with the Enphase system for monitoring my power. After just a couple of days I can already identify some emerging patterns that will assist in the management of my power.
Looking forward to being able to put the batteries on and being able to buy back my own extra power instead of paying 3 times the sell price to buy it back from big coal.
