Solar Panel Installation across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie & the Hunter Valley

So you’ve heard of the benefits of going solar and are now in the market for a solar panel solution that’ll work for you. It turns out, there’s a huge variety of solar panel systems accessible to residential customers. Some of these may even price well into the tens of thousands of dollars. So how is one to choose and what can you expect from your investment? Read on to find out how to use the advantages of solar energy to your benefit.

What’s the best Solar Panel on the market?

One of the most common questions that come up when thinking of investing in solar energy at home is: what is the best solution for my household? There are a variety of products and brands on the market and the choice can be confusing.

Leaving out thin-film solar panels, which require an amount of space prohibitive for most residential applications, the first distinction to make is between monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar panels. Although slightly cheaper upfront, polycrystalline tend to be less pure than thin film or monocrystalline solar panels. In the longer term, however, what brings real value is the space-efficiency of a panel, or what percentage of solar energy (or photons) hitting the panel surface is then converted into usable household electricity. Given that a solar panel is an investment that will pay for itself over the years, monocrystalline panels (which currently deliver 17-19% efficiency) are to be preferred over polycrystalline ones (13-16% efficiency).

As for brands, the best solar panel currently available on the Australian market is, without a doubt, the LG NeON®2 330-watt solar panel, released in 2016 . Choice Magazine had the CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) test 15 of the best solar panel brands available to households in Australia in 2016. After the 12-month long test, the LG NeON®2 was undisputedly elected as the overall winner, thanks to its best in class performance in efficiency, longevity, and ability to work well in any weather. This product represents some of the best solar panel technology available, and makes for a very sound investment moving forward. Our recommendation is to invest in a product that has been thoroughly market-tested and is backed by a reputable brand.

When deciding what size of system to buy for your home, factors to consider include: past usage data from your bills (we like to see a 12-month span to ensure we’ve got the most precise estimate); whether you’d like to invest in batteries to be able to store your electricity for later use (in which case you want to oversize your system to allow you to collect an excess); and any future investments you’re planning (say, a spa that might consume extra kWh).

Solar Panel Installation Requirements

Another question that might come up when researching residential solar energy generation is where should solar panels be installed, and whether the space required is indeed available. Most roofs will fit about 16 330-watt panels, however it isn’t necessarily the case that they should be mounted on the roof. In fact, to optimise exposure to the sun rays, we advise installing them on a tracker, which will turn the solar panels to allow them to follow the sun, similarly to what a sunflower does. The tracker can either be placed on the roof or the lawn, or any other area with access to plenty of sunlight. Solar panel installation on the north side of the house is not necessarily the best as one might be tempted to think. We recommend a north-westerly orientation to generate electricity in the afternoon and evening, between 2pm and 8pm, when most people get home and start consuming. This is also to counter the peak hour tariffs in this timeframe.

We hope that we helped you gain some clarity on the subject matter of solar panels. Below are a few more FAQs with some additional information. We’ll be happy to answer any further questions or address any concerns either via phone or email at the contact details below.

FAQ’s

Q: Where do your solar panels come from? Who is your supplier?
Our brand of choice for solar panels is LG NeON®2, manufactured by the multinational tech company LG, headquartered in South Korea. When it comes to solar energy, as well as many other consumer electronics applications, LG is right at the forefront of the innovation frontier with high quality, reliable solutions for everyday life. And here in Australia, since day one we’ve been working with the Victoria-based distributor L&H Solar + Plus, an integral component of the Sonepar Group, active in Australia and NZ for 130 years.

Q: How long can I expect my solar panels to last?

The NeON®2 is backed by a 15-year manufacturer’s warranty, longer than any other in the industry. However, you can reasonably expect LG solar panels to last well into their 20’s; Australian standards require solar panels to perform at 90% of their original capacity after 20 years from installation, and 80% after 25 years. After that, you’ll probably want to upgrade to a newer, more efficient technology.

Q: What do I do if something goes wrong with my solar panels? Does the GoSolar team provide maintenance or repairs?
If something were to go wrong, our job here at GoSolar is to help. We’re constantly monitoring solar panel performance data, and if parameters are out of whack, we’ll be aware and on our way before you might even notice the problem.

Q: How is solar panel efficiency different to its output?

Solar panel efficiency is directly related to output. The more efficient the panels are, the greater the output. LG NeON®2 solar panels are unbeatable in terms of space-efficiency to price ratio. With a 19.3% module efficiency, for every 100 photons that hit the panel, 19.3% are converted into energy.

Q: How much power will my system generate?
Energy generation, or watt rating, is 330 watt per hour (or 0.33kWh) per LG NeON®2 panel. That translates into over 5 kilowatts of production per hour for a typical 16-panel solution.

Q: Do solar panels require any maintenance?

Apart from exceptional circumstances, such as heavy dust storms, LG NeON®2 solar panels hardly require any maintenance. Normal weather conditions and the occasional rain storm take care of clearing off any dust particles that might sediment over the surface of the panels over time. For good measure, we recommend hosing the solar panels down with soapy water every 5 years.

THE Ne0N®2 THE PANEL OF THE FUTURE AVAILABLE TODAY

The LG NeON® 2 has seen many improvements, from longer warranties and higher efficiency to stronger frames and better wind loading. This panel is ideal for homes seeking a visually pleasing solar panel and for roofs where space is tight or where future system expansions are considered e.g. to incorporate battery storage or electric car charging. The LG NeON® modules with their double sided cells and CELLO technology absorb light from the front and the back of the module. This technology sets a new standard for innovation and was recognised with the 2015 Photovoltaic Innovation Award at the Intersolar Industry Event in Germany. LG also won the 2016 Intersolar award for our new NeON BiFacial range.

In 2013, 2015 and 2016 the LGNeON® range wontheac claimed Inter solar Awardin Germany, which demonstrates LG Solar’s lead in innovation and commitment to the renewable energy industry. With over 200 lesser known brand panels selling in Australia, LG solar panels offer a peace of mind solution, as they are backed by an established global brand.

Proven Field Performance

LG has been involved in a number of comparison tests of the LG panels against many other brand panels. LG NeON® models are consistently among the best performing in these tests.

LG Corrosion Resistance Certication

LG NeON® 2 panels can be installed condently right up to the coastline. The panels have received certication for Salt Mist Corrosion to maximum severity 6 and Ammonia Resistance.

Strict Quality Control Reliable for the Future

The quality control of LG world-class solar production is monitored and improved using Six Sigma techniques via 500+ monitoring points to effectively maintain and improve our uncompromising quality

Multi Anti-reective Coatings Increase Output

LG is using an anti-reflective coating on the panels glass as well as on the cell surface to ensure more light is absorbed in the panel and not reflected. More absorbed light means more electricity generation.

Improved High Temperature Performance

Solar panels slowly lose ability to generate power as they get hotter. LG NeON® 2, has an improved temperature co-efficient to standard modules, which means in hot weather LG NeON® 2 panels will deliver higher output.

“CELLO” Technology Increases Power

“CELLO” Multi wire busbar cell technology lowers electrical resistance and increases panel efficiency, giving more power per panel and provides a more uniform look to the panel.

Low LID

The N-type doping of the NeON® cells results in extremely low Light Induced Degradation (LID) when compared with the standard P-type cells. This means more electricity generation over the life of the panel, as the panel degrades less.

Extensive Testing Programme

LG solar panels are tested between 2 to 4 times the International Standards at our in-house testing laboratories, ensuring a very robust and longer lasting solar module.

Cyclone Wind Load Resistance

LG modules have a strong double walled frame. When it comes to wind forces (rear load) many competitor modules are certified to 2400 Pascals. LG modules are certified to more than double – 5400 Pascals, which provides at least double the strength and durability to a standard module.

Positive Tolerance (0/+3%)

If you buy a 330 Watt panel then the flash test of this panel will show somewhere between 330W and 340W. Some competitor panels have -/+ tolerance, so you could get a flash test result below the rated Watt, meaning you pay for Watts you never get.

Anti PID Technology for Yield Security

PID (Potential Induced Degradation) affects the long term ability of panels to produce high level electricity output. LG panels have anti PID technology and have been successfully tested by leading third party laboratories regarding PID resistance.

Fully Automated Production in South Korea

All LG solar panels are manufactured in a custom designed and fully automated production line by LG in Gumi, South Korea ensuring extremely low tolerances. This means great quality and build consistency between panels.

LG NEON® 2 – ENHANCED. MORE EFFICIENT. ADVANCED.

LG NeON® 2 solar modules now offer even more output. Featuring a classy design and with a total of 60 cells, it can withstand a load of 6,000 pascals. LG has lengthened its product warranty from 10 to 12 years and has improved its linear performance guarantee to 84.8% of nominal output after 25 years. The LG NeON® 2 is an excellent choice for high performing long lasting solar systems.

So LG support, via offices in every Australian mainland state and NZ and through our 70 strong, Australia wide dealer network, is only a phone call away.

HIGHER OUTPUT, HIGHER YIELD

The NeON® Cell produces energy from both the front and the back of the cell. This innovative approach allows the absorption of light from the back of the cell which raises the panel’s efficiency and power output. Standard panels only absorb light from the front.

EXCELLENT QUALITY, INDEPENDENTLY TESTED

You can rely on LG. We test our products with at least double the intensity specified in the IEC standard. (International Quality Solar Standard).

Our panel range have won a string of International Awards.

POWERFUL DESIGN, GUARANTEED ROBUST

With reinforced frame design, the LG NeON 2 can endure a front load of 6000 Pa which is the equivalent of 1048 kg over the size of the module. The rear load/wind load of the module is 5400 Pa which is more than twice the wind load resistance of standard modules (2400 Pa)
