Frequently asked Solar Energy questions

Explore the answers to the questions we are most frequently asked by our current and prospective customers.

Solar Panels

We use both Hyundai VG Series Black and also industry leading REC Alpha Pure Solar Panels. Hyundai is one of the worlds biggest consumer brands. Hyundai has been creating Solar Panels since 2005. Founded in South Korea. Manufactured in South Korea. REC has been creating Solar Panels since 1996. Founded in Norway. Manufactured in Singapore. By using panels from trusted and well known brands you’re making a safer investment for the long term.

Both Hyundai and REC provide a market leading 25 Year Product Warranty for their solar panels. This is different to the Standard 25 Year Performance Warranty. Many other manufactures only have a 10-12 Product Warranty. So be sure to check the different Warranties when comparing panels.

If something were to go wrong, our job here at GoSolar is to help. We’re constantly monitoring solar panel performance data, and if parameters are out of whack, we’ll handle the whole Warranty process. You don’t need to do a thing.

Solar panel efficiency is directly related to output. The more efficient the panels are, the greater the output.

A typical system using 400W Solar Panels can produce over 25kW of power per day for a typical 16-panel installation.

Apart from exceptional circumstances, such as heavy dust storms, Hyundai & REC solar panels hardly require any maintenance. Normal weather conditions and the occasional rain storm take care of clearing off any dust particles that might sediment over the surface of the panels over time. For good measure, we recommend hosing the solar panels down with soapy water every few years just to keep them fresh and clean. If you are unable to do this we offer a Cleaning and Maintenance service for you.

Microinverters

Our brand of choice for microinverters is Enphase, the leading microinverter producer in the world, based in California, United States. With more than 36 million inverters shipped worldwide, Enphase aims to be the clean energy solution partner of choice and guarantees uncompromising quality in every product.

If something were to go wrong, our job here at GoSolar is to help. We’re constantly monitoring inverter performance data, and if parameters are out of whack, we’ll handle the whole Warranty process. You don’t need to do a thing.

Microinverters work best when they’re matching the panel size as closely as possible. If you’re going with 400W solar panels, we recommend using 349W microinverters (IQ7A).

Absolutely. Microinverter-based PV systems are modular: all you need to do is put up another panel with a microinverter attached, that easy.

Enphase’s manufacturer’s warranty is 10 years for the Australian market because it includes parts and labour. On the American market, the same product is guaranteed for up to 25 years—there’s no reason to expect a shorter life-cycle from them here.

Solar Hot Water

Our brand of choice for solar hot water systems is iStore by Solargain, premium Australian supplier of solar products, established in Perth in 2005. Our history with Solargain goes way back to 2016. In fact, we specialised in hot water solutions right from the start, and subsequently branched out into other related solar industries, as well.

We have found that coupled with a Solar PV System, the 180L iStore is more than enough to handle the requirements of the average home. Using your excess power through the day to do the bulk of your heating. Topping up overnight using Off Peak if required.

Component warranties differ, from 5 years on the cylinder to 2 years on the refrigeration and electrical components, to 1 year on other components. In general, you can expect a payback of 5 years for your initial investment (yearly ROI of 20%).

GoSolar offers maintenance and repair services for damage due to storm damage. In the case of an iStore system, there are no system parts on the roof, so the chances of storm damage is reduced greatly.

Home Energy Monitoring

Our monitoring partner is the energy technology company Enphase, based in California, United States.

The Enphase Envoy-S Metered is included in our solar panel installation package and is free to use for the lifetime of the PV system.

The Enphase Envoy-S Metered is a user-friendly reporting system, and comprehensive video training is provided.

GoSolar is of course always available in case of doubts or requests for support. You’re welcome to reach out by giving us a call or dropping us an email.

Solar Battery Storage

Since 2013, our brand of choice for solar batteries is Enphase, based in California, United States. The battery itself is manufactured in Japan, where safety is paramount: as it should be, given that this device goes inside your home.

The Enphase AC Battery is a one-size, modular solution that enables you to add more as your needs evolve. It’s a cost-effective way to build a solar storage system tailored to your specific situation. Typically our customers start out with one or two batteries and upsize as needed.

Enphase’s manufacturer’s warranty is 10 years, at which point the battery should still be at 80% working capacity and therefore still quite usable.

If something were to go wrong, our job here at GoSolar is to help. We’re constantly monitoring battery performance data, and if parameters are out of whack, we’ll handle the whole Warranty process. You don’t need to do a thing.

While solar panels increase the selling value of your house and cannot be moved due to STC’s, batteries are an appliance and can be transferred without any issues.
